STEM is the abbreviation of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Stem curriculum integrates various disciplines to help students understand the world and explain the objective laws of nature, solve practical problems, and realize harmonious coexistence with nature.
STEM curriculum focuses on strengthening the education of students in four aspects: ① scientific literacy, that is, the use of scientific knowledge (such as physics, chemistry, biological science and geospatial Science) to understand nature and participate in the process of influencing nature; ② technical literacy refers to the ability to use, manage, understand and evaluate technology; ③ engineering literacy refers to the understanding of the process of technical engineering design and development; ③ scientific literacy refers to the understanding of the design and development process of technical engineering; ④ Mathematical literacy is the ability of students to discover, express, explain and solve mathematical problems in various situations.
The STEM course base of our school is a provincial course base. After construction in recent years, it has become a demonstration course base with advanced facilities, complete courses and double achievements, including vex robot studio, silk studio, biochemical innovation laboratory, aeromodel laboratory, UAV laboratory, woodworking laboratory and metalworking laboratory. Each laboratory has specific teachers teach students the experimental knowledge of UAV aerial photography, robot shooting, laser carving, 3D printing, etc.
STEM education curriculum is an interdisciplinary integration of four courses and related courses. It aims to train students in interdisciplinary from high school stage and cultivate their interest in basic science. If students from international department participate in STEM courses and characteristic projects in high school, especially when they have certain achievements, they will get higher recognition when they apply for excellent universities or high-quality disciplines in the future.
Modern STEM education not only teaches critical thinking, problem-solving, high-level thinking, design and reasoning skills, but also imparts such behavioral abilities as perseverance, adaptability, teamwork, overall organization and responsibility taking.
