Robert, won the "Friend of Suzhou Honor ·Award"!

On 28th September, Exchange Activities Between Suzhou Municipal Government and MNE 2021 and Suzhou Honorary Citizen & Friend of Suzhou Awarding Ceremony were held. Robert, academic principal of International Department of Suzhou No. 1 High School of Jiangsu Province, was awarded the honorary title of "friend of Suzhou" by Suzhou municipal government. The "Friends of Suzhou" honorary award was established in 2004 to commend and encourage international friends and compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan who have made outstanding contributions to Suzhou's economic construction, social development and foreign exchanges and cooperation.


More than 20 years of educational experience and more than 5 years of management experience in China. Robert's class advocates the form of discussion and the study habit of independent thinking, with humor, creativity and motivation. As the academic principal of International Department of Suzhou No. 1 High School of Jiangsu Province, Robert has nearly 21 years of international curriculum teaching experience and is proficient in five languages, one of which is Chinese. Robert is from the Czech Republic, he began to learn Chinese when he was studying in Australia in the late 1990s. In order to have a better language environment, he also went to China and studied Chinese at Tsinghua University for a year. Later, although he had working experience in other countries, he still included China in his future plan.


In 2000, Robert entered the international education as soon as he arrived in China. He was surprised to find that education can give him a heartfelt happiness and witness the sense of achievement brought by the growth of students. It was so wonderful. In 2016, taking the opportunity of his personal career promotion, Robert came to Suzhou again. As a result, he took root in International Department of Suzhou No. 1 High School of Jiangsu Province.


In the school, he is not only responsible for supervising and controlling the planning and details of foreign teachers' curriculum implementation, but also rush to the front line of teaching and act as the professor of the curriculum. At the same time, he worked with the Chinese teaching and research group to carry out the research and development of integration course of China and US. The schedule on Robert's desk is full. He likes international education very much and likes to deal with these children who are going to study abroad. Therefore, even if he sometimes sleeps only three or four hours a day because of pressure, he can still keep full of energy.


Robert also attaches great importance to tapping students' own potential through the integration of Chinese and Western courses, so that each student can find and give full play to their own advantages and truly have the ability to solve problems in real life. "Our educational model is to integrate the advantages of Chinese and Western cultures, learn from each other's strengths and develop in an integrated way. Students need to study both Chinese high school courses and international courses at the same time. However, we will not only teach knowledge, but will use 'PBL' (problem-based learning method) to across many disciplines, let students use the learned discipline knowledge to explore solutions to problems that might be related to nature, science and Policy... In short, this aims to cultivate children's increasingly mature and independent thinking ability, "Robert said.


In normal times, Robert actively participates in various cultural exchange activities between China and foreign countries. He was awarded the honorary title of "excellent academic exchange contributor" by the "Foreign Teachers English Course Delivery Program" of Suzhou Municipal Education Bureau. He often receives invitations from various media to share his experience in international education, and also cheer up friendly for Gaokao students. Robert, who is very obsessed with Chinese traditional culture, also likes traditional Chinese medicine acupuncture and has learned from the 13th generation of Zhao Bao Tai Chi. As a lifelong learner, in addition to teaching, Robert also received undergraduate and master's degrees from famous British and Australian universities. He set an example for his students.


Perhaps Robert was born in the Czech Republic, the capital of art. In his eyes, the artistic cultivation of a city asks time to precipitate. When no matter how large or small cultural and artistic elements are scattered in the corners of the city, it is not far from literature and art. And the edification of art to students is also very important. He said, "watching TV and playing mobile phones too much will make people lack imagination. In fact, art needs imagination and active thinking ability." in his classroom, this characteristic of cultivating students' subjective initiative is particularly obvious. For example, he will not directly tell the students what something means, but let them explore and discover the meaning by collecting data and group discussion.
